2021.11.30 21:26 Cocao_Nibs The Duelist in Purple Armor - Chapter 11 (Light Fanservice)

Ashira was so excited to get out of her sweat-drenched PTs that she nearly forgot to grab her clothes from the coatroom. With an almighty groan, she heaved herself into a standing position, her sore legs vehemently protesting her every move.
She limped out of the locker room and over to where she had thrown her bag. She slung it over her left shoulder, hobbled back to the locker room, and immediately sat back down on the bench. It wasn't that she felt winded or exhausted; just that her body was threatening to fold in on itself, were she to continue.
While she was resting her legs, Ashira figured she could take stock of her clothing situation. She had brought all the apparel she owned with her to Terra, though that didn't amount to much. The canvas bag contained precisely one dress uniform, one set of cold-weather gear, and half a dozen or so fresh sets of underclothes. That, plus the clothes on her back and the shoes she had just kicked off her feet, were all that she had.
When the 5th Rocket Artillery was still around, such limited clothing options were of no consequence to Ashira. After all, her fireproof one-piece was an official uniform, though most changed out of it while not on duty. She didn't mind being seen as a bit jingoistic by her underlings, and the imposing appearance it gave her helped keep them in check. And, when she was in her private room in the officers' quarters, she simply went around nude, since the place was warm, and no one could watch.
Now that she was in Norilsk, however, that simply wouldn't cut it. Even assuming a best-case scenario: one where she would wear nothing but her PTs and birthday suit on weekends, when she didn't have to go fence, it would still be impossible to keep her clothes even remotely clean. Ashira made a mental note of all the articles of clothing she would have to buy, wincing preemptively at the impending chit bill.
She had been cut off from her family's expense account days prior; her meager paycheck and not-so-meager savings would have to bear the brunt of her purchasing decisions. It would be the first time that the former noble would go shopping with a budget in mind, and Ashira had no clue how to go about doing it.
Deciding that she was rested enough to take a shower, the woman hoisted herself to her feet once more, her eyes tearing up slightly from the pain. Grabbing a fresh towel off a rack by the showers, Ashira entered the nearest free stall.
Her sweat had partially glued the fabric of her t-shirt to her skin; it made a sound akin to the peeling of an adhesive bandage when she pulled it off. Her shorts were adhered to her skin just as firmly, if not more so. Though they had both started a neutral gray at the start of the day, the Shil'vati's perspiration had turned them black with moisture.
Her bra was the next waterlogged article of clothing to come off of her. Though her underclothes had been issued to a significantly more svelte Ashira, their pliable construction had allowed her to keep wearing them, even as she accumulated kilogram after kilogram while languishing in her SPRC. That did not mean that they were anywhere near ideal, though.
Her breasts fell heavily against her body under the force of gravity, peeling apart from one another with a mortifyingly-loud squelch. Ashira breathed a sigh of relief; they had been squeezed together under a combination of her bra, shirt, chest protector, and soft armor, sautéing in sweat the whole time. Though the air in the locker room was warm and humid, it still felt like a cool autumn breeze had hit her chest.
When she next pulled off her panties, Ashira again felt a wave of relief. Their waistband had viciously dug into her flesh, leaving behind an angry blue line where they had sat. As she placed her discarded clothes into the thoughtfully-included bin on the stall door, Ashira made a mental note to also buy new underwear, cringing at the thought of spending potentially hundreds of credits on clothes she would only need for a month.
After hanging her towel and change of underclothes on a hook above the bin, Ashira turned the hot water knob to its maximum. What she experienced was nothing short of euphoria.
It was as if the near-scalding water was scouring more than just sweat from her body. With every drop that impacted her skin, it felt like the pain from the day was being washed away. Ashira didn't know how long she had stood there, feeling the pain in her thighs and calves give way to dull aching, and the tightness and soreness in her right arm simply melt away.
Her session in paradise was cut short when she heard the door to the locker room open, and she realized she'd overstayed her welcome. She hurriedly turned off the shower, towelled herself off, and pulled on her fresh bra and panties. Now that Ashira had noticed it once, it was impossible to ignore how tightly they enveloped her body. She had to replace them, no matter the damage to her savings account.
Having fully dressed in her recently-issued winter gear, Ashira plucked her coilgun from the charging rack in the coatroom. Before leaving, she checked the time sheet hanging next to it. Sure enough, her one-on-one lesson for the next day was scheduled for eight in the morning.
She descended the stairs into the tunnels, now able to fully appreciate their slight soothing coolness. As she rounded the corner into the main tunnel, Ashira went to pull up the map of Norilsk on her data-slate, only to realize that she had no connection there, in the bowels of the city.
Luckily for her, a patrol was approaching. "Excuse me, ma'am," Ashira asked, as the first of the Raikiri women drew level with her. "Do you know how to get to the R-Block housing sector? I just got stationed here today, and I forgot to download the map on my data-slate."
The Raikiri winced empathetically. "You poor, poor soul. They really went and stationed you here in the dead of winter, huh? Right, the R-Blocks are right across the city from us, so you are going to want to take the metro, like I do."
"Walk to the end of this tunnel, heading where we are, and then turn right," she explained. "Keep going until you see a sign that says Polyarnaya Station. That is when you turn down this smaller tunnel, on your left this time, and keep going 'till you get out onto the platform."
Ashira nodded. "You said you lived down there. Do you know of any good, cheap clothing stores down that way, if you don't mind?"
"No problem!" The Raikiri chuckled as she began to march down the hall again, gesturing for the Shil'vati to keep pace. "There is a place called The Imperial Wardrobe, right by the R-Block metro station. Most of their stuff is kinda boring, but it's cheap, and it lasts good enough. I buy it, so there's that."
They continued in silence until the tunnel split into two at a T-junction. The patrol turned left as Ashira turned right. "Stay safe out there, tuskie!" The Raikiri called after her.
"You too!" Ashira yelled back.
As she continued down the path, searching for the exit to the Polyarnaya Station, a thought popped into her head. 'That girl was incredibly nice and helpful,' Ashira thought. 'If I'd come up to a patrol on Shil and asked for directions like that, I would be lucky to just be told what station to go to. And here, they gave me a step-by-step list of where to go, and recommended a store for me? That's insane!'
Arriving at Polyarnaya, Ashira went to check the schedule posted by the entrance. The next metro to the R-Blocks arrived in fifteen minutes. Plenty of time to sit and relax, Ashira figured, as she sat down on the bench that ran along the station's back wall.
A few other people were also waiting for a metro. Most were Humans, apart from a male Shil'vati, who, predictably, had a female in tow.
The station's walls and ceiling were, like almost every surface she'd seen so far, tiled with pale violet cermet. In an effort to make the station look more interesting, its designers had included a horizontal line of dark green tile, which ran its circumference.
The floor was concrete, shined to a mirror finish. A yellow stripe ran along the edge of the platform, urging commuters to keep away from the edge.
The only thing that broke up the monotony of the small, empty station were two advertising billboards. One promoted a new model of hunting coilgun, with integral scope rails and a higher-capacity battery. The other enthusiastically announced a new flavor of Turon energy drink, "Now with one percent real fruit juice!"
'I wonder what the other ninety-nine percent is,' Ashira mused. Boredom had set in almost immediately for her. The utter lack of any defining features to the station was threatening to lul her into a stupor. She desperately wanted something, anything, to break up the monotony.
"Ash, is that you?" A familiar, bubbly voice called out to her. Her wish was granted.
Ashira stood up just in time to be enveloped in a tight, tan-colored, furry hug, which she returned. "Hoyora, didn't think I'd see you here," she said, after the Raikiri released her from her embrace.
"Oh, I was just headed to the R-Block housing," Hoyora replied. "My apartment is out in the middle of nowhere, in Block R27."
The look of stunned amazement on Ashira's face did not go unnoticed by her friend. "Why, is something wrong?"
"No, no," the Shil'vati replied with a grin. "It is just that my apartment also happens to be in Block R27!"
A squeal of joy escaped her friend's lips, and Ashira found herself engulfed in yet another embrace. "What apartment?" Hoyora asked, as she continued to hold her friend.
"310," she replied, almost regretting her words as the Raikiri's arms wrapped tighter still around her body.
"Ancestors! I'm in 311; we're next-door neighbors!" Hoyora exclaimed, and finally loosened her vice grip on Ashira. "I was going to go do some shopping at this place called The Imperial Wardrobe I found on the data-net, so I won't be headed straight home, if you will need me."
"Funny you should say that!" Ashira replied. "I was just about to go do the exact same thing."
The metro ride had been impressively swift and smooth. 'Probably the first form of transit I've used here on Terra that hasn't been a total death trap,' Ashira thought with a smile, as she and Hoyora walked out of the R-Block station.
The main tunnel there was far wider than in the D-Block, and it was dotted with entrances to various shops, as well as smaller paths to housing blocks. Just as the patrolwoman had described, The Imperial Wardrobe was just a few paces away from the station.
Its door was painted in the colors of the Imperial banner on its upper half, and in the black, yellow, and white of a flag Ashira did not recognize across the bottom, separated by a metal push bar that spanned its middle. Above the entrance hung a poster that read, We serve the Empire with pride!
Stepping inside, Ashira was immediately struck by how small the shop was, and how densely it was filled with merchandise. The store's wares spanned almost every category Ashira could think of, from ultra-cheap domestic designs made of plain-colored fabric, to imported Shil'vati winter gear with active thermoregulation, at markups that made her eyes water.
"Anything I can help you with, dears?" Came a thickly-accented voice from behind some shelves. Both Corporals looked up to see a petite Human female approach them, her apron identifying her as the proprietor of The Imperial Wardrobe.
"Well," Hoyora began, "I need a few more cold weather sets, like the one I'm wearing. Maybe some earcaps and a pair of boots, if you have any. I'm on a bit of a tight budget, though."
The Human stepped back from her, looking her up and down. "I think I can get something worked out for you," she said.
She then turned to Ashira. "And you, my darling?"
"Another two cold weather sets, like the one I have on right now, a few pairs of athletic shoes, maybe ten more sets of workout clothes, about as many sets of underwear, and same deal for something loose and casual," Ashira replied, smiling apologetically. "I would prefer not to go bankrupt by the end of this."
The shopkeeper let out a low whistle, looked up, and began to count something on her fingers. "You know that will come out to about four grand, right?"
Her words elicited an audible gasp from Hoyora, who looked to see her friend's reaction. Ashira gritted her teeth and put on a stoic expression. "Consider it to be six years' worth of shopping in a day, then," she said, flatly. Turning to her Raikiri friend, she added, "I still have a couple hundred to last me the month, plus savings if it all goes south."
"Right," Hoyora replied, unsure of what to make of the Shil'vati's decision. "Well, in that case, let me help you pick out something nice!"
Arriving at Block R27, her arms full of bagged merchandise and chit card nearly drained, Ashira slowly climbed up the stairs, Hoyora in tow. The place seemed recently refinished; the paint on the bare concrete walls was fresh, the steps did not squeak as they set their weight on them, and the overhead lights did not flicker. In short, it did not seem overly unpleasant to either of the women.
"I'm still confused," Hoyora piped up, as they ascended the steps to the third floor. "Why did you buy so much stuff?"
"I had literally nothing to wear," Ashira replied with a laugh. "I went through my years as a Colonel wearing nothing but underwear and a flame suit over top. I never had a reason to go shopping, before now."
"Thank you, by the way, for helping me pick out what to wear," she added. "I would have been so lost without you."
"No problem, Ash," Hoyora replied. "I love the sweatpant things I found you. You are going to look a-mazing!"
Just as Ashira set down her bags to open her door, a thought crossed her mind. "Hoyora? Are you going to the gym tonight?"
"Of course," the Raikiri replied. "What's up?"
"Can Max and I come with you?"
Hoyora squealed with joy. "Yes, yes, of course! Please, do come! I'd love to have workout buddies!"
"See you tonight, then!" Ashira said, before entering her new apartment.

2021.11.30 21:26 jmd1400 Short boulderers have tips?

I'm about 5'1" and I often find boulder problems impossible which I blame on my height but maybe I'm missing something else? For example I worked really hard on the first couple moves of a problem only to get to the second to last move and find that the foothold I'm supposed to use I can barely even touch with the tip of my toe. The only other hold is a couple inches under my hand which makes the move at least twice as hard. There are also a lot of dynos that I feel are just completely impossible for me and overhung foot holds that require tension that I can't sustain because my body is completely stretched out. I'm curious if other shortfolk find it particularly difficult to boulder vs rope climb or if this is something that's particular to my gym or maybe I'm just whining? I'm curious if there are any general tips for getting around these issues.

2021.11.30 21:26 SawtoothGlitch Gravity on the Moon indoors

I think someone needs to tell the producers that the reduced gravity on the Moon should also apply indoors!
When the astronauts step outside, they are all of a sudden walking slo-mo and bouncing around in reduced gravity (which is pretty accurate), but the moment they step inside the Jamestown outpost they walk and move around perfectly normal like they would on Earth.
Was this just an oversight, the producers just ignored it to conserve budget, or did they invent artificial gravity generators for Jamestown? (/s)
Everybody should be hopping around inside the Jamestown base in 1/6th gravity just like they do outside on the Moon. I think it's a pretty glaring inaccuracy in an otherwise great show.

New to Resin printing and I got my first print off my Photon S to go without an issue, but after that, I cannot get a print to stick to the build plate. I've had two consecutive prints stick to the bottom of the vat.
I've tried releveling my bed and that didn't help. What else should I be doing to the bed before printing? Is it possible that the alcohol clean is preventing it?
Also, would the cooler temps in my garage (mid 60s) potentially be preventing it?
